The underlying CPI rose by 2.9 per cent in the September quarter to be 12.2 per cent higher through-the-year, driven largely by increases in the price of food, rents, council charges, fuel and power. Headline CPI increased by 3.2 per cent to be 13.5 per cent higher.

The underlying Consumer Price Index CPI rose by 3.6 per cent in the June quarter to be 10.2 per cent higher through-the-year, driven largely by increases in the price of rents, council charges, fuel and power and food. Headline CPI increased by 3.7 per cent in the June quarter to be 10.7 per cent higher in through-the-year terms.

CPI rose by 2.9 per cent in the March quarter to be 7.9 per cent higher through the year. Headline CPI increased by 3.1 per cent to be 7.5 per cent, elevated since mid 2007. This is the highest rate of inflation both headline and underlying since inflation was brought under control in 2003. Find out the major contributing factors:

The FBO sets out the annual fiscal outcome and provides details of revenue and grants, expenditure and net lending and the financing requirement of the Government budget. The FBO has been released in accordance with the PNG Fiscal Responsibility Act (2006) (refer Legislations and Acts).

The Minister for Treasury and Finance, Hon. Patrick Pruaitch said that he wanted to remind the Education Department, school boards and worried parents of school children that the Government made a decision in handing down the 2008 Budget to continue the additional K100m subsidy for the school fees in 2008.
