The 2020 National Budget announces the Connect PNG Program, an ambitious program aimed at developing the critical transport infrastructure necessary to connect Papua New Guinea together. This budget also aims at tax reform aimed at bringing more businesses into the formal tax sector, setting out a policy of reducing the business tax rate of 30% to 2% for businesses that earn less than K250,000. It also announces the creation of the Labour Mobility Unit, which will work across government departments to increase the mobility of labour. This will increase the number of people living and working overseas, who will earn high wages, supporting their family back home, while developing skills that will enrich Papua New Guinea in years to come.
