The Department of Treasury (DoT)
MISSION STATEMENT
The Department of Treasury's mission is to provide sound, timely and influential advice to the Government and to implement the relevant policies efficiently and effectively. The Department also provides assistance in managing the economy so that the people of Papua New Guinea can have increased opportunities to improve living standards and enjoy a better life.
OBJECTIVES
The Department's objectives are:
- Development of an economic policy framework within which the planning and budgeting strategies are implemented; and
- Establishment and maintenance of appropriate systems to ensure proper financial management and accountability of public resources.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS
- undertake research and provide advice to the Government on economic issues.
- provide advice to Government on financial issues that arise from the National Budget.
- prepare and monitor the National Budget.
- provide policy advice to the Government on the finance and resource management of National Government Departments, Provincial and Local Level Government and state owned enterprises.
Consistent with the above objectives, the functions of the Department are categorised and summarised under their own Divisions. Together, they form an integral package of work which essentially supports the achievement of government development aims for which it has a support responsibility.
