On 20th February 2005, The President of The Divine Word University bestowed on me the Honorary Award in International Relations on behalf of the Paris based Center for Diplomacy and Stretagic Studies owned by the Superior Institute of International Relations, a College of Sorbone University. An Honour rare for a Papua New Guinean which is higher in status than that of a Honourary Doctorate Degree and only intended for Statesmen and famous PoliticalLeaders.
   
   
   
   
   
The award was instituted by Sorbone University in 1802 and so far only a handful of people were granted.
   
   
On the 30th Independence Anniversary 2005, I was awarded Companion of the Star of Melanesia (CSM) for Distinguished Service of A High Degree in any field to PNG and Asia Pacific Region, particularly the Melanesian Nations, and to humanity, considered to be inspirational and significant at the national level, and sustained over a period of no less than 15 years.

As Foreign Minister I was elected by The African, Carribean and Pacific Group (ACP Group) to be the Chairman of Council of Ministers and as such to become Co-chairman of The ACP-EEC Council of Ministers which negotiated The Third Lome Convention Governing Trade between ACP and EEC Countries.

Appointed by the South Pacific Forum to be chairman of a ministerial committee comprised of foreign ministers from New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga to look at possibility of merging the South Pacific Commission with the South Pacific Forum Secretariat.

I was the second Papua New Guinean to be appointed Chairman of the Public Services Commission after Independence. Amongst the reforms that I presided over was the decentralisation of the administrative powers and functions to the provinces after the National Parliament passed the law to introduce the Provincial Government System in Papua New Guinea.
         
       
As chairman, I was a member of the Budget Priorities Committee which was comprised of, apart from myself The Secretary for Finance as chairman, The Secretary for Department of Prime Minister, Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Director of the National Planning Office.
         
       
It's role, was primarily to advise the cabinet through the National Planning Committee of Cabinet (comprising Prime Minister, as Chairman, Minister for Finance and Minister Planning and National Development) on all policy and the context of the priorities set by the government.

Provincial Commissioner, East New Britain. As chairman of the East New Britain Constituent Assembly, I was responsible for the co-ordination, planning and establishment of the Provincial Government in the province which was formally declared on 13th July, 1976.

Principal private Secretary to the Chief Minister, Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Somare. I was responsible for the co-ordination of the office of the Chief Minister, and as Chief Political Advisor, advice given to the Chief Minister during the most crucial time of Papua New Guinea's political development just prior to independence of the 16th September, 1975

Senior tutor in History and lecturer in History , University of Papua New Guinea in July, 1970, the first graduate to be awarded a scholarship to study abroad, and on return the first to be appointed to the academic staff of the University of Papua New Guinea.
   
   
         
       
My field of academic interest was basically in Papua New Guinea and Pacific History.
